Scam pattern
Instagram/Facebook “account will be deleted” scam
“Copyright violation — verify in 24 hours or lose your account”
A DM or email claims your social account broke a rule or will be deleted, with a link to “appeal” or “verify.” The link is a fake login that steals your password — then they lock you out and target your followers.
How it’s usually worded
- “Your account violated our Community Guidelines and will be deleted. Appeal here: [link]”
- “We noticed a copyright complaint. Verify your account in 24 hours to avoid deletion.”
- “Meta Support: confirm your login details to keep your page active.”
Red-flag signals
- Deletion deadline
“24 hours or it's gone” pressures you to skip the warning signs.
- Login on an off-platform link
Real appeals happen inside the app, never on a random domain.
- DM from a “support” account
Platforms don't run support through DMs from odd handles.
- Asks for 2FA code
Handing over a code lets them seize the account even with 2FA on.
What to do
Don't click. Handle any real issue inside the app's official Settings/Help. Turn on 2FA and never share login codes. Report the message.

FAQ
It came as an email from “Meta” — could it be real?
Check the sender domain and never log in via the link. Open the app directly to see any real notices.
I clicked and logged in — what now?
Change your password immediately, revoke unknown sessions/apps, enable 2FA, and warn your followers in case they're messaged.
