Crypto “giveaway” / double-your-coins scam
“Send 1 ETH, get 2 back” fake celebrity giveaways
A post, video, or DM (often impersonating Elon Musk, a celebrity, or an exchange) promises to double any crypto you send to an address. You send; nothing comes back. There is no legitimate “send to receive more” giveaway.
How it’s usually worded
- “Elon Musk LIVE: Send 0.1–10 BTC to this address and receive 2× back instantly!”
- “Official Coinbase giveaway — verify your wallet by sending a small amount.”
- “Only the first 1,000 participants qualify. Act now!”
Red-flag signals
- Send-to-receive
Any “send crypto to get more back” is always a scam — there's no exception.
- Celebrity / brand impersonation
Hijacked or look-alike accounts borrow trust they didn't earn.
- Fake live streams
Looped old footage with a QR code / address overlay.
- Countdown pressure
“First 1,000 only” stops you from thinking it through.
What to do
Never send crypto to “double” it. Transactions are irreversible. Report the impersonating account and move on — there is no real giveaway.
